Best how to save money articles for the week of 6/20/14
As frequent artofbeingcheap.com readers know, the ABC donates 10% of all revenues to the charity chosen by readers. We need a new charity for the 3rd quarter of 2014, and nominations began last week. This is the final week of nominations before readers vote next week, so let me know in the comments section below if you have a favorite charity. When you leave a comment I don’t secretly take your email address and sign you up for a newsletter or anything like that, so please let me know who the ABC should give money to.
I read dozens of articles and blogs on how to save money so that you don’t have to. Here are my favorite articles of the week:
Sink positive is green and great for small bathrooms Jennifer on jenspends.com has an interesting idea on how to save space in a small bathroom. She reviews a product that turns a toilet into a sink and toilet, and no, there is nothing gross about it. It saves water too, which is cool.
Free and Low Cost Programs for Your Children This Summer If your family is looking for fun things to do until school starts up again you might want to check out this list frugal activities from Melissa Batai at prairieecothrifter.com.
How To Fake A Really Expensive Wardrobe I love this article by Cat at frugalrules.com about how to look like you have spent a lot of money without spending a lot of money. As for myself, I don’t even try. I am pretty sure everybody knows I shop at Goodwill, Wal-Mart, and Target.
50+ Legitimate Work From Home Job Opportunities I have known people who have tried to find jobs they can do in their free time from home and it is really hard to find a work at home job that isn’t a scam. Alexa from singlemomsincome.com has a list of actual things you can do to earn a little extra money. The one tip I have is that there is no job called “work from home” If that is the title of the classified ad then keep moving because that isn’t a real job listing.
Online Eye Exams: Money Saving or a Bad Idea? Kim Parr on eyesonthedollar.com (A blog by a real life Optometrist) has the story of a website that has you do online eye exams then gives you a prescription based on the results. This doesn’t sound like the best idea to me, but it is an interesting idea so I will let you decide for yourself.
13 Ways to Make Money While Exercising While those other suckers are paying a bunch of money each month for a gym contract here are ways you can actually profit from getting into shape from Danielle Warchol of savingadvice.com. I have always thought it would be a good idea to turn a stationary bike into an electricity generator, but that didn’t make the list so the technology must not be quite ready yet.
Avoiding Airline Baggage Fees is Easier Than You Think I wrote this article for clarkhoward.com. I am a huge fan of Clark and have listened to every minute he has put out on podcast for the last 3 years, so I am really proud of this one. This is how I am feeling right about now:
