The new phone is here! The new phone is here!
To update an earlier story, Republic Wireless has just released it’s new phone, the Moto X. I don’t normally get this excited about the newest technology coming out, but this is huge news for people who like saving money.
As I wrote about before, there has never been a cell phone plan in the US that combined a low monthly price, adequate talk minutes, adequate text limits, adequate data allowances, a good network, and a great phone at a fair price before. This looks like it might be the perfect cell phone plan.
Should you get it right now?
Probably. I have already ordered one for my wife and I and will write a review as soon as I get a chance to test it to see if it’s as great as expected. In the meantime, it has a 30 day guarantee if you don’t like it, so it’s probably a good idea to go ahead and order it right now. As much excitement as there is for this phone it might sell out before too long.
The only potential drawback is that it works on fairly new technology that works both on regular celular networks and on wifi. Up until now. Republic Wireless has been in Beta testing, and the call quality on thier phones was well… not perfect. With the new phone, Republic Wireless is out of beta testing and is ready for prime time. If they aren’t, you still have the 30 day guarantee if you aren’t happy.
What if you are under contract with another carrier?
You should probably break your contract and pay the fees so you can sign up with Republic Wireless. If you don’t believe me, here is a calculator to prove it.
In the interest of full disclosure, Republic Wireless did not pay me to write any of these articles. But, they did send me a nice T-Shirt to thank me.
