We all know that Christmas can be expensive, but batteries are the hidden Christmas expense that you keep paying all year long. The good news is there is a way to save money on batteries that is also good for the environment. This Christmas, you should consider stocking up on rechargeable batteries if your a parent of small kids, the owner of a game console, or know somebody who is.
How much money will rechargeable batteries save?
How much money you will save depends on how many batteries you use. As an example, lets say you go through 8 batteries every month which would amount to 96 batteries per year. On Amazon.com, the best selling AA batteries cost about $15 for 48 batteries. That would run you $30 a year, every year.
On the other hand, you could get this battery charger with 4 batteries for $13. Because those batteries can be reused hundreds of times these same 4 batteries can be used over and over again. So after 1 year you have already saved $17 and the savings keep adding up year after year. Even if 4 batteries are enough for you, you can purchase more rechargeable batteries for as little as $10 a pack and you will still be saving money. Besides the money you will save, rechargeable batteries are also better for the environment.
Video Gamers need batteries
We all know that parents of young kids need lots of batteries, but the other group that needs to stock up are video game players. The wireless controllers that are used with modern game consoles such as the Nintento Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, or Playstation 4 go through batteries faster than any kids toy I can think of.
Most gamers don’t keep replacing their controllers with batteries, but instead get special rechargeable batteries that only fit their controllers. However, the most popular chargers for all of these systems costs more than the $14 on Amazon above. Not only is this simple AA/AAA battery charger cheaper than those systems, it is also more flexible. Why get batteries that just fit your games controller, when you can get batteries that will fit in everything?
So that is my idea for a Christmas gift to save money, rechargeable batteries. Luckily for everyone involved, my wife is in charge of getting the Christmas gifts at my house. So what are your ideas for getting gifts that will save money? Let’s hear about it in the comments section.
